We are currently seeking a Transportation Coordinator for our Gardner, KS distribution center.
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB: Coordinates the routing and scheduling of outbound customer
shipments from various distribution centers within Newell Brand’s Outdoor & Recreation
division. Communicates and collaborates with internal and external partners involved in the
logistics fulfillment process to ensure timely delivery of goods via sound carrier selection and
scheduling strategies.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES
ROUTING/CARRIER MANAGEMENT
Route outbound shipments for all incoterms and modes of transportation by the most
optimal carrier; following Company and/or customer guidelines while minimizing
transportation costs, reducing exposure to customer penalties and maximizing customer
satisfaction through timely delivery of shipments.
o Create, run, and analyzes delivery status reports for assigned accounts to ensure
timely routing and shipment per customer ship windows.
o For freight collect shipments, ensures proper interpretation and adherence to
customer’s carrier selection guidelines and routing request timelines. Follows up
to ensure routing is returned and shipments scheduled to meet customer’s ship
windows.
Communicates with carriers and follows up with all interested parties in regards to
special needs, rush or critical shipments for delivery to customer.
Follows up with customers and/or carriers in regards to appointment scheduling,
appointment reschedules, or carrier no-shows.
Maintains rates by lane and customer specific routing data within logistic routing/rating software.
Problem solve in a fast-paced environment as logistics and carrier issues arise.
Investigates to determine root cause and make appropriate decisions to resolve.
Assists in on-boarding new carriers as to Company expectations, procedures and policies
and monitors performance.
SCHEDULING
Determines most effective ship date to meet customer delivery requirements while
maintaining appropriate workload levels within the warehouse(s).
DISPATCHING
Ensures proper execution of various processes for timely and accurate invoicing to customer.
Ensures accurate completion of all carrier paperwork.
Assists drivers, warehouse personnel and security as needed with check in, shipping
paperwork and check out.
Ensures DOT HazMat certification verification for all carriers hauling any HazMat loads
is current and recorded as required.
Issue Return Authorizations to carriers for any OS/D or refused freight.
Manage carrier trailer inventory spotted on Company’s warehouse yards for accuracy.
Notify customer or carrier of drop trailer turns and empties needed to support outbound
operations.
Files all freight claims as required.
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma required, some college preferred
3 to 5 years’ previous experience in distribution or transportation
Working knowledge of transportation terminology, industry standards and procedures a plus
Independent decision making and problem solving skills in a high-volume work environment
Must possess highly effective oral and written communicative skills and excellent interpersonal skills
Fluent in English
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook). SAP experience aplus.
