Job Description
The Commonwealth Center for Children & Adolescents (CCCA) is seeking 1st and 2nd shift LPNs to provide age-specific nursing care and medication management to child and adolescent psychiatric patients in a safe, therapeutic environment. Located conveniently located at the crossroads of I 64 and I 81, CCCA is a 48-bed facility and is Virginia’s only public acute care psychiatric hospital for patients 17 and under. Our mission is to provide high quality acute psychiatric evaluation, crisis stabilization, and intensive short-term treatment that empowers children and their families to make developmentally appropriate choices and that strengthens children’s hope, resilience and self-esteem.
The primary duty of the LPN is to provide medication management, including dispensing, administering, and documenting use of medication in patient charts, and ensuring med rooms are properly stocked. In addition, LPNs work closely with other members of a multidisciplinary treatment team to provide collaborative trauma-informed psychiatric care to their assigned patients. LPNs assist RNs with monitoring patients, documenting charts, and ensuring a safe and therapeutic milieu; supervising PNAs and serving as positive role models; assisting with admissions and discharges and providing patient and family education, particularly with regards to medications. Responsibilities also include supporting, and working collaboratively with Direct Care Staff, including working direct care to provide necessary breaks to PNAs, and sitting 1:1 when necessary.
The LPN position carries a highly competitive salary starting at $38,400 and increasing from there commensurate with experience, as well as $2.50/hr shift differentials for hours worked during 2nd and 3rd shifts during the week, and $3.00 shift diffs for all weekend shifts. Right now, there is a $3000 bonus for applicants who are successfully onboarded. The position also offers a robust benefit package including:

Minimum Qualifications
Position requires current LPN licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The successful candidate must have knowledge of mental health psychiatric diagnoses, trauma-informed care, and various treatments. They must demonstrate solid knowledge of illness and treatment modalities, especially as they relate to medication management. Must demonstrate strong and effective communication and interpersonal skills, and must be able to effectively work with other members of the treatment team as well as psychiatric and sometimes aggressive patients. Computer skills and knowledge of or experience with electronic health records are required.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous LPN experience and experience working in psychiatric nursing strongly preferred.
Special Requirements
Walking and/or standing for up to eight (8) hours or more, bending & lifting, ability to use TOVA techniques are essential elements required of the role.
