The University of Virginia's College at Wise invites applications for a Computer Engineer 2 in the Office of Information Technology. This position will provide technical expertise and support for installation and maintenance of operating systems, software components, and equipment configurations. A Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field is required. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Additionally, candidates must possess the following qualifications:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Server and workstation products, systems management, and Active Directory including advanced administration and configuration (DNS, DCHP, Exchange).
• Knowledge of and experience with virtualization concepts, hypervisors, hyper-converged solutions (VM-Ware, Scale).
• Knowledge of and experience with Linux server and workstation systems administration (RHEL or CentOS preferred).
• Experience with server class systems architecture and hardware, as well as common open source projects and community environments.
• Experience and knowledge of systems security, backup and recovery procedures, server patch management and networking in an enterprise environment.
• Experience performing technical evaluations and analysis for all supported servers, workstations, and systems in response to help desk tickets and user requests.
• Experience with Content Management systems (CMS) such as Drupal or WordPress.
• Experience with LMS systems - configuration and setup (Blackboard or Moodle preferred).
Preference will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:
• Knowledge of underlying protocols of Active Directory and SSO components, including LDAP, Kerberos, and ADFS.
• Experience with database platforms (MS SQL, MariaDB, MySQL and PostgreSQL).
• Experience with and knowledge of systems architecture and redundancy in a data center environment.
• Knowledge of IAAS and SAAS.
