Operating Room Associate – CG-Central Services

Upstate Medical University is looking for an Operating Room Associate to join their dynamic team of expert professionals.

Duties include but not limited to, responsible for providing expert scrub skills and specialized knowledge of all surgical procedures to include care/use of all equipment and supplies; provides supervision, evaluation, and mentoring of sterile processing techs; and acts as a preceptor for students and orientees, specialty service orientees. The ORA presents and participates in educational offerings, nursing committees, staff and team meetings, and collaborates with the Business Office staff, Materials Management staff, and all nursing staff related to the care and preparation of the surgical patient. The Operating Room Associate facilitates meeting the learning needs of all students, orientees and staff, and is expected to plan and implement educational programs on the care and use of new equipment, instrumentation, and supplies. In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager, Clinical Leader and other staff the ORA participates in the monitoring of patient care to achieve high-quality patient outcomes.

Graduate of nationally accredited surgical technologist education program or completion of an appropriate training program in surgical technology in the United States armed forces or Public Health Services Commissioned Corps AND current surgical technologist certification by a nationally accredited surgical technologist credentialing organization AND a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist (preferably in an academic Level I trauma setting) required. Demonstrated ability to scrub for all required surgical procedures required. Sterile Processing certification is required. *Candidates who are not Sterile Processing certified at the time of hire must obtain certification within 18 months and will be on a temporary appointment until certification is received.
