Drinking Water and Wastewater Technician/Trainer
Job Description:
South Carolina Rural Water Association (SCRWA) is seeking a wastewater/ drinking water professional. This highly dynamic position is responsible for conducting on-site technical assistance and training for small and rural wastewater and drinking water utilities around the state.
The job responsibilities include but are not limited to providing on-site technical assistance in all areas of operation, maintenance, management, compliance, potential compliance, health, and environmental issues. (Examples of on-site technical assistance include collection system operation and maintenance, smoke testing, sewer camera inspections, distribution system operation and maintenance, leak detection, rate studies, budgeting, assistance with State and Federal mandate compliance, policy and procedure development, asset management, post enforcement compliance planning, and emergency response planning).
Responsibilities also include providing training (both classroom and on-site) for drinking water and wastewater treatment and collection system operators. (Examples of training include new technologies in the water and wastewater industry, water and wastewater license certification preparation, regulatory and safety issues).
The Technician/ Trainer interprets, reviews, analyzes, and explains policies, rules, regulations, legislation, and laws related to the proper operation of rural and small water and wastewater systems. They consult with staff and others in government, business, and private organizations to discuss issues, coordinate activities, and resolve problems. They initiate and review findings of investigations, surveys, and studies to compare and evaluate possible courses of action and formulate policies and techniques that can be used to recommend improvements for management policies or operations of rural and small water and wastewater systems.
Minimum Qualifications:
Biological Wastewater licensure, Water Treatment Licensure, Water Distribution Licensure or a combination.
At least 5 years’ experience in the water and wastewater utility industry.
Valid US Driver’s License.
Reliable vehicle and willingness to travel extensively state-wide. Some overnight travel will be required.

Compensation:
Starting salary range: $45,000 to $60,000 depending on experience.
