As our Virtual Engineering programs expand, GSSM is seeking an Instructor of Engineering. Applicants should have a Master’s degree, Ph.D. preferred, in an Engineering discipline and three years of experience teaching Engineering in a high school or college setting. Expertise in teaching in distance education—in an online and/or interactive video conferencing classroom is a plus, as is experience in curriculum development.
Desired qualifications include a strong content background in a core engineering discipline, teaching Engineering in a college or advanced high school, and a passion for student-centered teaching and learning. Applicants should have an interest in distance education, curriculum development, and planning, as well as a proven record of excellence and the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with all sectors of the GSSM community. Applicants should be dedicated to continual growth, both as teachers and learners.
Other requirements include: experience with CAD and/or CAM; preparation for teaching an ethnically diverse student population as demonstrated by training and experience; experience in use of educational technology; commitment to curriculum design. General academic advising, and occasional evening/weekend commitments are a regular part of faculty responsibilities.
GSSM Virtual Engineering programs are being offered to cultivate the next generation of engineers, problem solvers, and technical leaders, providing motivated high school students from across South Carolina an innovative and accelerated path toward college engineering degrees. The instructors selected for the open positions will work with other faculty to implement an integrated curriculum that is taught virtually to high school students throughout the state of South Carolina. Possible course assignments for this position include Pre-Engineering, Foundations in Engineering, Engineering Disciplines and Skills, and Engineering Design and Modeling, and Senior Research & Design. In addition, the instructor will develop and teach new courses as needed. These positions report to the Engineering, Business, and Computer Science Department Head and will collaborate with other members of the GSSM faculty and staff. These are full-time (10-month) teaching positions, with benefits available through the State of South Carolina. A public school teaching certificate is not required. Salary is competitive and commensurate with credentials, experience, and unique capabilities.
