The mission of the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) is to seek out and advance the state’s most talented and motivated students, offering them a transforming education in science, mathematics and engineering that cultivates joy in learning and builds the confidence to engage as ethical leaders with the world’s most significant issues. In alignment with its mission, GSSM seeks a Director of Academic Programs to begin no later than Fall 2019.

Experience of Applicants: The successful candidate will have demonstrated strong instructional leadership skills with experience in curriculum development, knowledge of educational pedagogy, techniques, trends, and issues in the state and nation; ability to work effectively and collegially with Vice Presidents, Deans, Directors, Faculty, and Staff; ability to understand and relate to students, treating them with respect; experience in the effective use of instructional technology; ability to communicate clearly and effectively in describing the school's programs and goals to the public. Strong organizational skills, communication skills, flexibility and adaptability are required.
Education of Applicants: Master’s degree or earned doctorate in educational administration or in an academic content area related to the curriculum of the school. At least three years of administrative experience in a public or private secondary school or college. Training and/or three years of experience in staff/faculty development, leadership development, instructional design, or school improvement.
Description of Work: The major responsibilities for this position are:
- Participate with and support the Residential and Virtual/Outreach administration in the planning and implementation of the academic curriculum.
- Work with the Dean of Faculty on planning and implementing instructional methods that support student learning outcomes.
- Develop and provide administrative leadership for the Professional Development Program for the faculty to ensure meaningful, strategic, and ongoing professional development focused on enhancing teaching and learning
- Oversee the implementation of the annual GSSM academic calendar, including announcing any updates or changes and works with the residential, outreach, and virtual program directors to acquire their respective program calendars.
- Assist in planning and lead implementation of campus-wide community events and initiatives such as Commencement, Convocation, Parent Days, Virtual Completion Ceremonies, Inside GSSM, Conferences, and the Strategic Planning process.
- Provide logistical support and participate in GSSM events such as Open Houses, Preview Days and Orientation Day; working with Dean of Students and Director of Admissions
- Oversee the GSSM Interim program including updating guidelines and approval of course proposals; budget oversight; course registration; allocation of space, equipment, and transportation; scheduling student sharing; and evaluation of student performance. Will work with SVP for Virtual and Outreach and Director of Virtual Education to develop an Interim program for students in the virtual programs.
- Oversee the dual enrollment process for residential and virtual programs; includes any special student registration requirements and addition of new courses.
- Manage the residential and virtual course catalog updates by working with the SVPs for Residential and Virtual/Outreach Education.
- Manage the residential advising program, serve as an advisor, and support ongoing efforts to improve the overall GSSM student academic success program.
- Oversees and leads the implementation of the Academic Integrity Guidelines for the residential and virtual programs.
- Assists GSSM Registrar on statewide testing for the residential program

Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time (12-month) non-faculty appointment position with benefits available through the State of South Carolina. Salary is competitive and commensurate with credentials, experience and unique capabilities.
