About the Office:  

The Mayor’s Office of Talent and Workforce Development (“NYC Talent”) is responsible for the City’s talent and workforce development system that benefits city residents, employers, and the economy. NYC Talent seeks new and effective ways to scale and sustain productive public/private partnerships; to develop and match talent to promising careers; to align its education, career preparation and skills training programs across City government; and to coordinate program and fiscal data across stakeholders to provide a comprehensive view of the talent system with the goal of making progress towards the citywide employment objectives laid out in Executive Order #22.

 

About the Role: 

NYC Talent is seeking to hire a dynamic, strategic, and highly organized individual to serve as the Chief of Staff to the Executive Director of NYC Talent. The Chief of Staff is a key advisor and part of the senior leadership team to serve as the central coordinator with leadership, ensuring that administrative and operational tasks are carried out.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

The Chief of Staff will perform the following functions:

  • Serve as an advisor to the Executive Director on City Hall priorities, vision, goals, programmatic and administrative matters.
  • Serve as liaison to City Hall, City agencies, and external stakeholders on behalf of the Executive Director.
  • Drive the flow of timely, accurate and relevant information needed for efficient decision-making and the achievement of initiative outcomes by improving the underlying systems used for management reporting, issue escalation and triage, and project/program intervention.
  • Ensure progress of initiatives toward stated goals by identifying and mitigating risks, triaging issues and /or escalating problems to senior leadership.
  • Work directly with staff on key City Hall initiatives to develop project plans, estimate work effort, plan, oversee and carry out activities, track progress and achieve deliverables.
  • Coordinate a results-based leadership agenda for team meetings and strategize with leadership to ensure alignment with key priorities.
  • Communicate relevant project and program information to Executive leadership and stakeholders
  • Support with coordinating resources and human capital to increase effectiveness.
  • Prepare and deliver informative, well-organized presentations and written deliverables including talking points and memos.
  • Oversee recruitment, on-boarding, leadership coaching to professional skill development across staff lines.
  • Manage staff and teams as needed.
  • Help to build and foster a collaborative and productive team culture.
  • Resolve and/or escalate issues in a timely fashion.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and five – seven years of program management or comparable professional experience, of which three+ years include progressively responsible experience in one or more of the following domains: business analysis, process improvement and/or systems development; or
  • 10 years program management or comparable professional experience, and 4+ years include progressively responsible experience in one or more of the following domains: business analysis, process improvement and/or systems development.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience planning, implementing, and managing projects involving diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills along with a strong work-ethic and the ability to work independently are imperative.
  • Ability to represent NYC Talent with confidence when presenting to senior level public and private sector partners.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously and prioritizing projects to meet deadlines.
  • An ability to think creatively, embrace new approaches and pioneer innovative solutions coupled with an ability to navigate large, complex institutions.
  • Knowledge of New York City labor market, construction industry and stakeholders including unions is s plus, but not required.
  • A clear commitment to public service.

 

Salary Range:  $130k- $150k
