Traffic Systems Technician
General Duties - Under the supervision of a Traffic Systems Technician
Responsibilities include: installation, operation, maintenance and repair of traffic signal and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) communications and software utilized to manage traffic. Need to be able to work independently in the field or with a team of TSTs.
Responsibilities may include serving in a role within the Incident Command System to support the Departments response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
Minimum Qualifications: Associates Degree in electronics, engineering science, civil engineering technology, or electrical technology, which includes at least 15 credit hours in electronics or electricity, and/or Two years of experience assisting in the installation, repair, and maintenance of traffic control devices and/or intelligent transportation systems, and meet physical/medical standards. Candidates must also obtain and maintain a Class B CDL with no air brake restrictions. To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law. If a viable eligible list does not exist, a provisional appointment may be made in accordance with Civil Service Law.
Candidates who accept a provisional appointment must take the next competitive examination and be reachable on the resultant eligible list in order to be considered for a permanent appointment to the position.
