Fleet Technician
Electric distribution utility has opening for Fleet Technician to maintain all cooperative vehicles (gasoline and diesel engines) and all utility construction equipment and trailers.
POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for inspecting, maintaining and repairing vehicles (cars & trucks), construction equipment, trailers and forklifts. Completes necessary records involving vehicle and equipment maintenance and repairs. Performs routine maintenance and major repairs to telescopic bucket and digger derrick equipment. Repairs and maintains vehicle HVAC systems. Performs diagnostics using electronic and computer diagnostic equipment to isolate and repair ignition, fuel and electrical systems. Performs D.O.T. inspections on trucks and trailers. Performs major overhaul of gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, transfer cases and differentials. Diagnoses and repairs electrical and hydraulic systems. Balances wheels and repairs steering mechanisms and suspension systems. Able to read and interpret manufacturer manuals and schematics.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: A high school diploma or equivalent and certifications as an ASE Master Technician in 8 areas (electrical/electronic systems, engine repair, brake systems, suspension/steering, automatic transmission/transaxles, manual drive train/axles, engine performance and heating/air-conditioning). Federal and state certification for handling and disposing of refrigerants. Six years’ experience in automotive inspection, maintenance and major repair, computerized shop equipment and electronic components and transmission repair including gear trains, couplings, and hydraulic pumps. Attention to detail and ability to work independently. Experience with welding and using hand tools. SC Commercial Driver’s License with a maximum of 4 points and able to operate a motor vehicle in a safe, courteous manner in accordance with all applicable traffic laws. Must be at least 18 years of age, have color vision and general residency within MCEC’s service area. Available for overtime and/or on-call duty.
