Leisure Sales Manager
General Description of Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Manages the leisure sales function. Develops programs for various audience segments with local stakeholders. Develops department sales plan and budget. Works with marketing staff and advertising agency in developing promotional materials for various audience segments. Produces monthly TDC board report and maintains sales records and customer database.
Conducts leisure sales program to the travel trade. Conducts sales calls, analyzes and participates in appropriate sales conferences/shows, and implements email campaigns to target audience segments in cooperation with local industry partners. Coordinates educational site visits for key customers and group organizers. Develops sales and promotional campaigns, emails and various digital communications promoting local events to tour operators and groups. Follows up on leads generated from shows and other sources.
Conducts leisure sales program to consumers and key audience segments. Identifies key decision makers among audience segments and promotes unique aspects of the destination to these groups. Develops customized sales material for selected audience segments in coordination with the local industry. Assist local stakeholders in developing products, programs and packages for various audiences.
Manages VisitTallahassee.com and the online calendar of events. Approves, edits and updates calendar of events submissions. Maintains and updates information on VisitTallahassee.com. Manages other digital marketing programs as assigned.
Conducts promotional and sales support for industry members. Assist industry in developing itineraries, providing information and coordinating relevant local contacts for groups booked in the destination. Assist major special events and festivals with targeted digital campaigns promoting individual and group stays to key audience segments. Compiles and verifies destination and industry information for annual promotional guide use for promoting group sales, weddings and reunions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the tourism industry and the leisure travel market. Knowledge of hotel leisure sales. Knowledge of general sales best practices. Must possess excellent organizational skills. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to multi-task. Ability to be creative. Ability to be detail-oriented and have excellent time management skills. Ability to travel. Ability to work weekends, holidays and evenings, as necessary. Must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision. Ability to function with the highest ethical standards.
COMPLEXITY OF WORK
Employee must be able to work independently when attending sales conferences/shows or when communicating directly with targeted audience segments. Employee must be able to exercise independent judgment in situations which may not fall within established procedures.
INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CUSTOMER CONTACT
Internal contact with department staff. Considerable external contact with industry stakeholders and customers.
EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS USED
Personal computer; word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation (PowerPoint) software; fax machine; adding machine/basic calculator; car and/or light truck.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work will be mainly indoors at a desk or at a trade show. There will be some setup requirements at travel shows. There will also be some outside work during site inspections or educational tours of the destination.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, Communications or a related field, and a minimum of three years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Necessary Special Requirements:
Must possess a valid State of Florida Class "E" Operator's License and have a favorable driving record.
FLSA STATUS: Administrative Exemption. Employee exercises discretion and independent judgment with regard to matters of significance, such as, but not limited to carrying out major assignments that involve managing and handling the leisure travel sales program, and developing and implementing program activities.
