Job Description:

The Kings County District Attorney’s Office (KCDA) is one of the largest prosecutors’ offices in the country and is committed to developing and implementing innovative prosecutorial strategies that will fulfill our vision of keeping Brooklyn safe while at the same time ensuring fairness and justice for all. KCDA has an exciting opportunity to work as a Grants Accountant.

 

The Grant Accountant performs professional accounting work for KCDA’s grants portfolio, supporting KCDA’s grant process throughout the grant cycle. Ensure timely fiscal reporting for federal, state, intra-city, and private grants. Resolve funder issues regarding fiscal reports.

 

  • Ensure that all claimed payments (personnel and OTPS) are made in compliance with all applicable standards and directives from the City oversight entities including the New York City Comptroller, the Policy and Procurement Board, and Financial Information Systems Agency as well as the state, federal and non-governmental entities where necessary.
  • Review, verify and certify that all invoiced payment request documents and supporting backup documents are accurate and current. Reconcile the current payment requests with prior submissions to ensure that there are no duplicate payment requests and that all documents are billable.
  • Oversee the grant accruals when necessary. Ensure personnel report accrual information to enable clearance in a timely manner.
  • Brief supervisors on issues and recommendations using appropriate supporting materials. Communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ensure the integrity of accounting information by compiling, verifying, entering, and reconciling applicable transactions and information necessary for the quarterly reporting process.
  • Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting financial transactions.
  • Preparation for periodic audits performed by governmental agencies and the organization's annual audit. Identify and prepare resources needed for A-133 and 122 audits, in addition to funder audits.
  • Liaise with funders as necessary. Identify grant fiscal issues and develop solutions, notifying supervisory staff and implementing decided upon strategy.
  • In collaboration with the Grants Manager, participate in meetings with program managers to strategize on contract compliance and other grant issues. Prioritize work responsibilities and meet deadlines.
  • Maintain expertise in systems and software required to complete tasks including FMS2, FMS3, Info Advantage, CHRMS, and QuickBooks. Effectively employ persuasive written and verbal communication skills. Possess confidence to present and articulate recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Maintain files and track data as necessary so that information requests can be responded to immediately.
  • Perform all duties and special projects, as assigned, in a thorough, professional, and honest manner. Demonstrate flexibility in receiving and performing assignments as deemed necessary by supervisory staff. Perform responsibilities with appropriate independence and supervision.

 

Qualification Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and four years of professional experience in economics, finance, accounting, business, or public administration and two years of satisfactory full- time professional experience in one or a combinator of the following: working with the budget of a large public or private concern in budget administration, accounting, economic or financial administration, or fiscal management

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with grants reporting, budgetary planning/management, financial analysis, and/or public policy analysis. Working knowledge of the New York City, State, and Federal budget policies and procedures is helpful.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills and the ability to communicate verbally and in writing; excellent computer skills are necessary including expertise and familiarity with Crystal Reports, FMS, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to work collaboratively and meet deadlines; and strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Organizational, time-management, and multi-tasking skills, including the ability to take initiative.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)

 

Residency Requirement:

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
