Career Opportunity

The City of Orangeburg is seeking qualified candidates for the position of DNA Analyst. Position will provide technical and advanced level work at crime scenes or elsewhere for investigative and prosecution purposes. Duties include performing laboratory processing of assigned cases; providing expert testimony in court cases and operating sophisticated laboratory equipment in conducting tests. All work performed to be in accordance with standardized laboratory methods and controls to ensure accurate and verifiable analyses of specimens. Position worksite is in the Department of Public Safety Forensic Lab, 898 Goff Avenue, Orangeburg, SC 29115.

Minimum qualifications:
Master’s degree in genetics, biology, chemistry or a forensic science related area with a combination of undergraduate and graduate course work covering biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology and statistics/population genetics.

Formal training in forensic DNA casework analysis, including evidence processing, DNA extraction and quantitation, PCR-STR DNA typing, data and mixture interpretation, CODIS eligibility requirements, report writing and court room testimony. Must have passed external competency tests in forensic body fluid identification and STR-DNA typing methodologies. Must be familiar with FBI quality assurance standards for forensic DNA testing laboratories and the ISO 17025 international standards for the general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories; have demonstrated competency in molecular biological techniques by being published in a peer review journal in areas related to molecular biology; and have prior teaching experience in a forensic related field.”
