Parks Maintenance Technician II
$13.85/hr. DOQ (Full-Time + employer-paid benefits package (medical, dental, vision, life, vacation leave, sick leave, retirement).
SUMMARY: Performs general maintenance duties at assigned facilities including but not limited to splash-pad operations and maintenance, beach/swim area maintenance, landscape maintenance, playground maintenance, janitorial duties, irrigation maintenance, pier/dock maintenance and beach maintenance at Captain Leonard Destin and Clement Taylor parks.
Special Requirements: May be required to work evenings and weekends.
Licenses or Certifications: Valid Pool and Hot Tub Alliance (PHTA) Professional Pool and Spa Operator Certification required or must be obtained within 1 year of hire. Those individuals in possession of a valid National Swimming Pool Foundation Certified Pool & Spa Operator certificate satisfy this requirement. Valid Florida’s driver’s license required within 30 days of hire.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Contributes to the development and accomplishment of home team work-plans.
• Demonstrate competent knowledge of all applicable policies, codes, ordinances, regulations, and statutes.
• Demonstrate competent knowledge of all divisional Key Functions and their associated processes.
• May be required to work evenings and weekends. Is available as required for “on-call” duty status 24-hour basis, 7 days per week to respond to City-related issues.
• Essential personnel during City Emergency operations (i.e. hurricanes, tropical storms, etc.)
• Contributes to the development and accomplishment of home team work-plans.
• Ensures the splash-pad is always operating within the established requirements for sanitation, safety and cleanliness.
• Assist the Parks Director or their designee to manage related budget expenditures and recommendations. (Recommends equipment and supplies.) Provides input during department budget preparation.
• Coordinates with the department of public health to maintain appropriate splash-pad licensing.
• Calibrates, cleans and ensures proper maintenance of equipment.
• Maintains current knowledge of research, trends, and developments in state law and licensing qualifications.
• Responds to inquiries concerning regulations and policies.
• Assists with landscaping and irrigation.
• Drives pickup trucks, hooks-up trucks to trailers, transports load to designated area.
• Is responsible for checking all assigned invoices for city compliance and labels each invoice with the facility location(s) associated with the expenditure. (i.e. employee signature, no tax added, location(s), etc.).
• May operate riding mowers, tractors, string trimmers, edger’s, blowers and other powered equipment.
• Assists with irrigation programming and repair.
Employee may be required to perform or assist in the following:
• Performs routine maintenance of parks, facilities to include janitorial duties and the rapid removal of litter, garbage, debris and graffiti.
• Practices safe operation and preventative maintenance of a splash pad at Captain Leonard Destin Park.
• Cuts lawns and trims/edges around sidewalks, flowerbeds, walls, and fences. Prunes shrubs and trees to include removal if necessary, to shape and improve growth or remove damaged leaves, branches, or twigs.
• Rakes and bags leaves, cleans grounds and removes litter and debris.
• Shovels sand/dirt from walks and driveways and makes minor concrete and improvements to walks/curbs and asphalt repairs and improvements on roadways.
• Plants grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs and waters plants and lawns.
• Paints fences, outbuildings, bathrooms, and other city-owned property/buildings (interior and exterior)
• Repairs fences, gates, walls, floors and roofs.
• Performs minor carpentry and masonry projects and repair to include boat ramps and docks.
• Cleans out ditches, culverts and removes sand from boat launching areas to provide adequate depth. Cleans facilities at parks, recreation sites and all City owned/leased facilities.
• Assists with minor repairs on equipment including lubricating trucks, recharging batteries, filling fuel tanks, replacing liquefied gas, changing oil.
• Sharpens tools such as weed cutters, edging tools, and shears. Makes minor repairs on equipment such as lawnmower, spreader, and miscellaneous lawn care tools/equipment. Inspects and makes minor repairs/adjustments to heating and cooling systems; plumbing and electrical systems and appliances; and sprinkler systems.
• Recommends measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment.
• Informs supervisor of tools, equipment and supplies required for maintenance operations.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Ability to operate a variety of heavy equipment such as a dump truck, backhoe, front-end loader, tractor, mowers, etc., to replace and /or supplement when necessary to accomplish a project.
• Ability to work with crewmembers in order to complete projects timely and efficiently.
• Ability to interact with people (staff, supervisors, general public and elected officials) beyond giving and receiving instructions to include tactfully mediating conflicts and achieving positive results.
• Ability to perform under maximum stress when confronted with short deadlines, heavy workloads, conflicting interests, and high customer demand.
Qualifications
Education and Experience: High School Diploma and one (1) year of work experience involving understanding of pool and splash pad operation, water drainage systems, building maintenance, and lawn maintenance is essential. Understanding of southeastern; turf grasses, ornamentals, weeds, insects and diseases is desired.
