The City of Atwater is recruiting for Police Chief. Under direction of the City Manager, to plan, organize, direct, and manage the functions and operations of the City’s law enforcement and crime prevention functions; to develop and direct the implementation of goals, policies, objectives, and procedures for the Police Department; to oversee a dispatching center for Police, Fire, and EMS; and to do related work as required. Serves as Disaster Service Worker. FLSA Status: Exempt. Bargaining Group: Unrepresented. REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in police science, criminal justice, law enforcement, public administration, or closely related field; a Master’s degree in criminal justice, public administration, or related field is highly desirable. Five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional experience in public law enforcement work including three (3) years in an administrative management or supervisory capacity in public law enforcement; graduation from POST Law Enforcement Command College and/or FBI National Academy is highly desirable. Possession of a valid Management Certificate issued by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training; and possession of a valid California driver’s license.
