Over the Road Truck Driver
Best Cob Truck Drivers will be responsible for delivering bulk loads and palletized loads of corn cob products using straight or convertible hoppers, walking floors, or van trailers to our customers. Trips may include short runs or extended runs. Drivers are also responsible for moving cobs from seed corn facilities to our storage facilities during harvest, as well as making intracompany deliveries throughout the course of the year. It is the expectation that drivers will possess good judgment skills to perform the essential functions of the job, including operating a CMV in a safe and lawful manner. All freight should be handled safely, securely, and efficiently. Drivers will be required to make appointments on times, communicate effectively to others, and maintain a high level of professionalism with those persons with whom the employee will be in contact as a company representative.
Job Duties
- Accurately and neatly perform the mathematical calculations necessary to do the work; determination of service hours, computation of time and mileage. Hand in all paperwork on time.
- Must be able to keep an up-to-date and DOT legal logbook and follow all DOT regulations
- Work irregular hours in stressful situations and to report on time as scheduled
- Should be capable of working independently without constant supervision
- Needs to work well with supervisor, other employees, drivers, and provide excellent customer service.
- Capable of opening and closing swing type doors as needed
- Must be able to convert a combination hopper type trailer. This will consist of lifting floors and moving bulkheads. Floors weigh up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to work on unforgiving surfaces such as concrete, wood, metal, and sometimes slippery or wet surfaces. This is necessary for loading, unloading, handling, and delivering the freight.
- Maintain a positive attitude, a high level of integrity, a strong work ethic, and take a team-oriented approach which represents the common mission that Best Cob is striving towards.
- Maintain composure and act rationally when problems arise. Have a willingness to work through difficult situations.
- Perform daily and weekly preventative maintenances on all equipment used, sustain a level of cleanliness and take all necessary actions to minimize downtime.
- Must be able to work in and around dust given off from corn cobs.
- Needs to perform the required work in a timely manner and maintain adequate production to meet service schedules. Deliveries and pickups should be made in an efficient, economical manner.
- Follow systems and procedures outlined in the company manuals.
- Ensure Company policies & procedures are followed and be supportive of company goals.
- Meet all assigned goals and assist others in accomplishing their goals.
- Keep in good communication with the freight manager and inform of any issues. This may include, but not limited to the following: breakdowns, equipment not working correctly, tickets, accidents, scheduling delays, tardiness, or other frustrating circumstances pertaining to work.
- Should check in with supervisor and return phone calls in a timely fashion.
- Adhere to all scheduling arrangements prepared by the freight manager.
- Willingness to assist co-workers and share knowledge base when applicable, and be receptive to others helping you. Provide a confident, yet humble approach to the workplace.
- Ability to follow instructions given by your supervisor. Driver must be reliable and dependable.
- Consistently perform an adequate amount of satisfactory work.
- This is a full-time position that requires both flexibility and adaptability.
Qualifications
- 21 years of age or older and possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A) and valid Medical Certificate.
- Driving School Certificate or 1 Year CDL experience required.
- Good attendance/ work history.
- Insurance requires a reasonably clean driving record.
- 2 or less moving violations in the last year.
- During the last 3 years: 3 or fewer moving violations, no license suspensions or revocations, no alcohol or drug-related convictions, and no serious moving violations
- Must not use any drugs or substances that would interfere with the ability to drive safely. Able to pass any company administered drug/alcohol test.
